Hierarchy Controls Deprecated in Dynamics 365 and Power Platform

Microsoft periodically updates the list of features and capabilities it intends to remove from Dynamics 365 apps and the Power Platform. These deprecations mean that Microsoft plans to remove the functionality from a future release.

During the deprecated period, the feature or capability remains supported. This allows administrators to plan by transitioning to a replacement feature or develop an alternative solution with the assistance of ServerSys or your current partner.

Hierarchy Controls and Visuals to be removed in October 2025

Dynamics 365 hierarchy account view

Microsoft deprecated hierarchy controls in model-driven apps in October 2024.

Organizations typically use these controls to visualise the hierarchy between accounts or product families within tree and tile views.

Microsoft plans to remove hierarchy controls in October 2025 due to low usage, accessibility issues, and incompatibility with the modern app interface. After removal, end-users will no longer be able to view the visual representation of hierarchical relationships between records.

Temporarily enable hierarchy controls

The 2024 Release Wave 2 automatically disables hierarchy controls. However, until October 2025, administrators can temporarily re-enable them by updating settings in existing apps.

In make.powerapps.com, select your app, then click Settings > Features to toggle the View Hierarchy setting.

Enable hierarchy control in Power Apps

Hierarchy controls will continue to work in your app until October 2025, when the feature is entirely removed.

Implement a modern hierarchy view

If this control is frequently used in your organisation, we can help you implement a modern, fully accessible hierarchy visualisation across devices. This may involve creating a custom PCF (Power Apps Component Framework) control to fit your hierarchy view requirements.
